Big Garden Birdwatch 2010

Just finished our annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Sixteen species in total over the hour, of which blackbird was the most numerous, followed by greenfinches and goldfinches. Had great spotted woodpecker too, down on the birdcake at the back of the garden, and a single song thrush. Our now residemt team of blackcaps performed well, two males and one female, as did the bullfinches. But no fieldfares, despite there being two in the garden yesterday. And no great tits either, but thats the chance element to randomly picking an hour to watch the feeders.

  1. That is so true about the chance element of randomly picking an hour to watch. Great tits and Blue tits would undoubtedly have been visiting at some point soon after I did mine. They simply did not show up during the hour.

Yes, we were lucky to have the woodpecker in our hour, but unlucky not to have the fieldfare that turned up again the following day.
